Farsons Beverage Imports Company Limited, in collaboration with De Mondion Xara Palace, recently hosted a wine dinner with a focus on Chateauneuf du Pape from the reknowned house of Chateau Mont Redon. Mr Jerome Abeille, owner of Chateau Mont Redon, was present at the dinner and gave patrons an insight into the wines of the Rhone Valley, with its very specific terroir, the development of the Chateauneuf du Pape and the long history of Chateau Mont Redon.

The first vines found at Chateau Mont Redon date back to Roman times and, over the centuries, the Chateau passed through a number of owners. The current owners, the Abeille and Fabre families, have now been managing the property for four generations, continually investing in the vineyards in pursuit of greater quality.

This quality was well reflected in the wines tasted during the evening at De Mondion. Chateau Mont Redon lived up to the high expectations one has of a Chateauneuf du Pape. Chateau Mont Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2000 in magnum showed how well this outstanding wine can age and it matched perfectly with a delightful slow-cooked lamb shank, prepared by the award winning Chefs of De Mondion. The current 2008 vintage was also excellent, and shows great potential for aging. A Provence rose, Chateau Riotor, was offered as a welcome drink, along with Cote Du Rhone Blanc.

Jerome Abeille also visited other restaurants during his 3-day stay in Malta, commenting on the fact that FBIC is the longest standing importer of Chateau Mont Redon worldwide.
