L. Farrugia & Sons opens the first local brewery in Farsons Street in Hamrun and launches Farsons Pale Ale on 19 April 1928 during the traditional feast of St. George in neighbouring Qormi. This is the first beer to be brewed in Malta which notably carried the iconic illustration of the statue of Neptune on its front label which soon led to Farsons' beers being commonly referred to as 'il-birra tal-Ggant.'

Barely a few months later, the Malta Export Brewery run by Marquis John Scicluna, launches a competitive lager beer, Cisk 'Munchener' on the 3rd August during the popular feast of St. Gejtano, in nearby Hamrun. Bankers by trade, the Scicluna family ventured into brewing after acquiring the as yet unfinished brewery from one of their clients who was in default while the name Cisk was acquired on the back of the local mispronounciation of the word 'cheque' which the Scicluna Bank introduced into local circulation.

Works begin in earnest to construct a new brewery at Mriehel to the plan and design of Lewis V. Farrugia, then Managing Director of Simonds Farsons Limited. Lewis V. Farrugia was an architect and civil engineer by profession and worked on the design in collaboration with British architect William Binnie, whose notable works include the old Arsenal Football Club's East Stand at Highbury as well as the Hotel Phoenicia in Malta.

The new brewery at Mriehel is formally inaugurated on the 8th June, by the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Malta, Sir Gerald Creasy, and blessed by the Archbishop, His Grace Mgr Michael Gonzi. The new brewery was built on an unparallaled scale and was one of the first and finest examples of a concrete reinforced building, marking an important turning point in the industrialisation of the island economy in post-war Malta.

The established wines and spirits division of Simonds Farsons Cisk Limited is hived off to a new company, Wands Limited to give greater focus to its prestigious portfolio of imported beverages.

To the great satisfaction of every single employee of the Company, Farsons’ own Cisk Lager is awarded the prestigious international Brewex Award in 1980 affirming the beer's excellence and the brewery's continued investment and focus on quality.

Simonds Farsons Cisk Limited enters into a joint venture with American Liquid Packaging Systems of California, USA, and forms Eco-Pure Premium Water Company Limited to bottle, package, market and distruibute drinking water in containers and dispensers.

In December 1995, Farsons offers for sale, at par, 300,000 6% net Cumulative Reedemable Preference Shares of Lm10 each, 2001-2003.

Farsons celebrates 50 years since its iconic Brewery became a well-known and much-loved part of Malta’s industrial landscape. The Brewery Facade was given a new look for the Millennium celebrations.

In March Simonds Farsons Cisk unveils a major investment in three capital projects. The new investment, including the construction of a new Packaging Hall for Soft Drinks, a new Distribution Centre and a new Brewhouse, and valued at more than Lm14 million (€32,600,000).

Cisk Lager, has done it again, confirming its world class credentials with a Silver medal in the Lager: International Style Pilsner category in the Brussels Beer Challenge 2014 competition, held in Leuven, Belgium, home to beer connoisseurs.
