The Basketball Promotion Unit (BPU) in collaboration with the Education Department organised a one day Open Basketball Tournament for Secondary schools at Ta’ Qali Basketball Complex. The tournament, in which five junior ladies teams and five junior men teams competed, was sponsored by Kinnie and Eurosport.
Sir Adrian Dingli (Junior Ladies) and St Edwards College (Junior Men) were the winners of the Open Basketball Tournament, while St Dorothy Zebbug (Junior Ladies) and St Joseph Paola (Junior Men) obtained second placing.
“The aim of BPU is to foster basketball in both primary and secondary schools. The tournament was a success and generated a lot of enthusiasm among the young players. We hope that we will see more participating schools at next year’s tournament,” said Leonard Falzon, head of Basketball Promotion Unit.
Kinnie Brand Executive at Farsons, Lara Micallef, said: “It is very encouraging to see new and fresh basketball talent. Kinnie has always been at the forefront to support and encourage the sport of basketball in Malta.”
At the end of the Open Basketball Tournament, Leonard Falzon presented the trophies to the first and second placed teams. Medals were also presented to every participant and basketballs to all participating teams.
The Basketball Promotion Unit will be holding the Finals of Mini Basket 3 on 3 for secondary schools on the 3rd and 4th May 2005. The games will be held at Ta' Qali Basketball Complex.
