The proceeds raised during Burger King 10th Anniversary Charity Penalty Shoot Out held at Freedom Square, Valletta, at the beginning of June 2005 were presented to Caritas Malta.
General Manager for BURGER KING franchisee, Food Chain (Holdings) Limited, Ms Stefania Conte, presented a cheque to Mgr. Victor Grech, Director of Caritas, Malta at Caritas Head Office in Floriana. She said: “We are thankful to all those who participated in 10th Anniversary Charity Event and making it a success, including our crew members who have extended their support to this worthy cause.”
In addition Burger King donated a further significant amount of money to Caritas Malta, which was made up of a percentage of the total sales at Burger King outlets carried out on June 4, the day of the event.
Mgr. Grech thanked Burger King. He said: “The money raised will go towards helping persons in need through our various programmes and services, including our Shelter for homeless persons with drug addictions, and our Prison Inmates Programme.”
The presentation was also attended by Ms. Anna Micallef, Promotion Unit at Caritas Malta and Mr. Marco Debono, Marketing Executive for Burger King.
Caritas Malta focuses its efforts towards working at the grass roots with persons in need, to alleviate different aspects of poverty. It does this through its many programmes and services such as: Drug Rehabilitation; counselling and Social Work Interventions; Usury; Support Groups; Helpage; Prevention Education in Schools; Xefaq Services in connection with HIV/STIs and Diaconia at Parish level.
The Burger King Charity Penalty Shoot Out was held in collaboration with the Valletta Local Council and supported by Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel, Coco-Cola, Powerade, Capital Radio, High-Enterprises Limited, Millennia, Alitalia Airlines, Logografix Signs, San Michel Fruitwaves, Urban Jungle, Nexos Lighting Technology, Middlesea Group, Di-ve.com and The Malta Independent on Sunday.
There are currently three BURGER KING restaurants in Malta (Sliema, Paceville & Valletta), which are successfully operated by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, through its subsidiary Food Chain (Holdings) Limited.
