The internationally renowned French wine-maker, Pascal Jolivet, met Maltese journalists during a casual wine tasting event held at Wands Cash and Carry in Marsa.
Pierre Stafrace, Wands General Manager, welcomed the guests and introduced Pascal Jolivet. The house of Pascal Jolivet is one of the youngest and most dynamic in the Loire Valley. Founded in 1987, this domaine produces some of the Loire’s natural, pure and high quality Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé.
Pascal Jolivet believes strongly in letting nature make the wines as much as possible. He said: “Making wine is interesting only if you do it with art and passion. In the past generations, wine makers did not interfere in the fermentation process and let it progress naturally.”
“We run counter to the new wine-making techniques by trying as much as possible to follow the original tradition in our winery. We elaborate our wines patiently and with an important know-how. As for the choice of the yeast, like for other problems related to vineyards and wine, we prefer to leave nature do its course,” explained M. Jolivet.
Journalists sampled two of the Loire’s finest white wines – Pascal Jolivet Sancerre and Pascal Jolivet Pouilly-Fumé. The wines were found to be easy to drink, pure, natural and yet complex. They are ideal to accompany any assortment of dishes, particularly the flavours of Mediterranean cuisine. The Pascal Jolivet Sancerre Rose and the Attitude Pinot Noir were also tasted.
Pierre Stafrace rounded off the event: “We have been working with Pascal Jolivet for 14 years and in this time we have built a strong relationship. We enjoy working with him as he is positive, innovative and very passionate about his wines, which are of the highest quality and which regularly receive glowing reports in specialist journals, such as Wine Spectator.”
The house of Pascal Jolivet produces ranges of wines, such as “Attitude” Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Noir, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, “La Grand Cuvee” Sancerre and Pouilly- Fumé, “Exception” Sancerre Blanc and Rouge.
Since 1985, Pascal Jolivet has also marketed single vineyards such as Chateau de Nozay, Les Caillottes, Le Chêne Marchand, Le Clos du Roy in Sancerre and Domaine la Loge Aux Moines, which is the oldest vineyard in Pouilly-Fumé and was founded by Benedictine monks in the 11th century.
A range of Pascal Jolivet fine wines are regularly available at Wands Cash and Carry in Marsa. The opening times are from 9.00am to 6.00pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays.
