The phenomenal success of The Macallan’s Fine Oak range, has prompted a subtle packaging design change to emphasise that the product is ‘Triple Cask Matured’ and enhance its distinctiveness from The Macallan Sherry Oak.
Fine Oak now accounts for one in five of all sales of The Macallan since its world-wide launch in August 2004. Annual sales have grown rapidly and hit new record levels in August this year with a 38% increase over the same time period last year.
This success has propelled Fine Oak, to become the most successful initiative in The Macallan’s 183 year history. Fine Oak success has also fuelled The Macallan’s rise to the number three best selling brand in the world’s top 10 Single Malts ranking. Now available in over 70 markets across the globe, Fine Oak demonstrates continued success in markets as diverse as the USA, Taiwan, Spain and Russia.
Ken Grier, Director of Malts, The Edrington Group, commented: “Premium Single Malt is one of the hottest spirit categories in the world. The Macallan is at the forefront of this success with a growth rate 10 times that of its competitors in the global Premium Single Malt category over the past five years. A significant growth driver is The Macallan Fine Oak, with sales that have soared since its launch.”
Masterminded by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan Fine Oak has won over 21 major awards since launch, including “Best New Scotch Brand.” The Macallan Fine Oak is Triple Cask Matured in a unique, complex combination of exceptional oak casks; European oak seasoned with sherry, American oak seasoned with sherry and American oak seasoned with bourbon, to deliver an extraordinary smooth, delicate, yet complex Single Malt.
The Macallan Fine Oak is imported, marketed and distributed by Wands Limited, a subsidiary company of the Farsons Group of Companies.

Fine Oak uses a higher proportion of sherry oak casks than most other single malts and these flavours are evident in Fine Oak. American oak casks, which have previously held bourbon or sherry impart a subtle, delicate colour with hints of apple, floral aromas, citrus fruit notes and toffee sweetness. Meanwhile, European oak casks, which have previously held sherry, impart a deep, rich colour with hints of dried fruit and spice. It is the only single malt in the world that is matured in this Triple Cask combination hence is exclusive to The Macallan.
