Simonds Farsons Cisk plc has announced the renewal of its sponsorship agreement with the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) for the next two seasons, through its brand, Cisk Lager. This recent deal is a clear indication of the long-term commitment of Cisk Lager to local sport and rugby in particular.
Cisk Lager’s sponsorship of the MRFU started when rugby was still a little-known sport on the island. Following the national team’s success in international matches, and the hard work put in by the MRFU, rugby is now a thrilling and popular sport that is eagerly followed by always increasing enthusiastic crowds.
“Rugby has made significant inroads in the local sports scene over the last few years, and Cisk Lager is proud to be associated with this success and of course with the national team that is drawing large crowds of supporters to its matches,” commented Mr Marco Debono, Brand Executive for Cisk Lager.
Cisk also supports rugby at club level through its sponsorship of Kavallieri RFC with Cisk Excel and Birkirkara Alligators RFC with Cisk Export.
Mr Martin Galea, President of the MRFU said that the constant support of sponsors is the foundation of the extraordinary achievements of the Maltese rugby community. “It is only through the steadfast support of Cisk Lager and other sponsors that we continue as a national entity.”
The Maltese national rugby team is currently ranked 54th by the International Rugby Board (IRB) and is third in Division 2B in the European Nations Cup. The team has won its latest home match against Sweden on 7th November in a thrilling and exciting finale. The next international match is on 17th April when Malta will play The Netherlands away. Malta will then play Latvia home on 24th April.
