President George Abela yesterday paid an official visit to Simonds Farsons Cisk plc.

President Abela was welcomed and accompanied throughout his visit by Mr Bryan Gera, Company Chairman, Mr Louis A. Farrugia, Chairman of the Group Executive Board, and Mr Norman Aquilina, Chief Executive Officer. Other members of the Board and senior company officials were also present.

During the visit, President Abela was given a guided tour around the plant and shown the process of brewing, bottling and packaging, taking the opportunity to meet with several company employees. He was also briefed about the current construction works for the new Brewhouse project targeted to be completed by 2013.

During this visit Mr Farrugia, Chairman of the Group Executive Board, announced that Simonds Farsons Cisk plc would be making a contribution to this year’s L-Istrina campaign through its flagship brand Kinnie. More details about this initiative are to be announced soon. Other activities, such as the employees’ participation in the President’s Charity Fun Run on the 5th December are planned to raise more funds for the worthwhile cause.

In his address to employees, President Abela noted the potential of Maltese industry, which, apart from capital investments, has invested heavily in the worker, keeping the country truly competitive. In particular, Farsons is a company that has moved ahead with the times and risen to challenges. He was extremely pleased to see that Maltese products were being exported and reaching far away shores such as China.

President Abela commended the company’s sense of corporate social responsibility and thanked the management for its initiative to support L-Istrina through one of its flagship brands, Kinnie. He also thanked the employees for supporting persons in need and the L-Istrina campaign through their participation in the Charity Fun Run as well as other activities.
