The world’s coldest ever gig at -40˚C in Siberia
British rock star, Charlie Simpson, is to attempt the world’s coldest ever gig on November 24th. The Fightstar front man will be performing a one-off, solo set to residents of a tiny Siberian town which holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in a populated area on earth -72˚C. If successful, Charlie’s icy endeavours will earn him an official place in the Guinness World Records annals.
Charlie has teamed up with Jagermeister, best served as an ice cold shot, for the “Jagermeister Ice Cold Gig.” The trip will see him leave behind the luxuries of a famous rocker and travel to Oymyakon, the coldest permanently inhabited spot on the planet. The Russian town boasts a population of 472, no running water or electricity and is so remote that it takes up to four days to reach from the United Kingdom, including a two day drive from the nearest city, Yakutsk.
With temperatures hovering around -40˚C, Charlie and his support team will battle sub-arctic climates so cold that mobile phones cannot function, boiling water turns to snow in mid-air and fish caught from local rivers freeze instantly.
Charlie said, “The Jagermeister Ice Cold Gig is by far one of the biggest challenges of my career, but I’m really excited to get out there and see a part of our planet that very few people will ever get to visit. It’s not really an option to play my guitar wearing gloves, so I just hope my fingers don’t freeze!”
Charlie Simpson and his team will depart for Oymyakon tomorrow, 20th November and will perform The Jagermeister Ice Cold Gig on 24th November.
Jagermeister is imported, marketed and distributed by Farsons Beverage Imports Company Limited, a member of The Farsons Group.

About Charlie Simpson
25 year old music industry veteran Charlie Simpson has been in the business for a decade. Starting out as a beleaguered punk-pop heartthrob in Busted, he finally broke free of the major label shackles to form the critically acclaimed alternative rock band Fightstar. After 3 successful albums and intensive worldwide touring, culminating in a sold out show at Shepherds Bush Empire in London, Charlie joined forces with acclaimed producer Danton Supple (Coldplay, Doves) to begin recording his debut solo record. The result was ‘Young Pilgrim’, an accomplished 12 track record that emanates with vintage warmth and earnest charm and which, upon release by Nusic Sounds last summer, debuted at #5 in the official UK album chart.
‘Young Pilgrim’ was rapturously received by Charlie’s fans, including his 60,000 twitter followers and Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton, who selected it as her ‘Record Of The Week’. The songs have since achieved over 2 million hits on Charlie’s YouTube channel, and Charlie went on to sell out 2 UK tours, including Koko in London, and a haul of festival appearances including V Festival and Relentless Boardmasters. Charlie also made numerous TV appearances including performing on ITV’s Daybreak, Channel 4‘s Hollyoaks Music Show and Channel 5’s OK TV, and his music has been used for the soundtrack to hit TV show ‘Made In Chelsea’. Charlie is currently in the studio writing his second solo album.
