12 months. 12 countries. 12 unique experiences.
These days we’re often so busy dealing with life that we totally forget about living it. Imagine you could choose yourself a life free from the daily strain of studying or work, where you meet your friends for real rather than on Facebook – a life more like the people of Havana – spontaneous, genuine and not solely driven by the pursuit of the next pay-cheque or the launch of the latest smartphone. The ‘Havana Club Gap Year’ is giving you this chance.
Havana Club is offering one person the experience of a lifetime; a journey that will take them to 12 different countries in 12 months. One lucky winner will spend one year living life the Havana way; free from the daily routine and a culture driven by technology. From helping a local community prepare for Rio Carnival to polishing their cocktail skills as a Cuban bartender (Cantinero) in Havana, to immersing in the Berlin art scene, the winner will discover the spirit of each place they visit through the eyes of genuine locals.
Havana Club is searching for one inquisitive, sociable and open-minded person to go on an amazing journey to discover this unique spirit - and then give the rest of the world a taste of a more fulfilled and meaningful life.
The winner will start the journey in Havana, learning the skills of a Cuban Cantinero and discovering the unique, genuine and authentic spirit of Havana. They will then travel to Barcelona to live with a family during the Festa Major de Grazia, tour with a jazz band across Canada, immerse themselves in the nightlife and music scene in Tokyo with a local DJ and much more.
People can enter the competition from 7th January 2013 by logging on to the Maltese Havana Club Rum Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HavanaClubRum.mt).
To enter participants simply upload a short video explaining what 3 things they would leave at home during the Gap Year and what 3 things they would pack in their bag if they won. The videos will be uploaded to the local Facebook page and voted for by their friends and the general public.
The 5 videos with the highest number of votes at the end of the entry phase will each be interviewed by Havana Club representatives. This will determine the winner from each participating country. Each country will then send a local winner on an all-expenses paid trip to Havana for 5 days.
In Havana the Maltese participant will join with all the winners from countries around the world to take part in the global finale. They will spend five amazing days in Havana, getting under the skin of the unique city. They will be tasked with creating a short film that captures the spirit of the city. The videos from all the winners will be voted on by a panel of judges and the overall winner of the Havana Club Gap Year will be selected based on the video produced.
The Havana Club Gap Year blog will be live on the Havana Club Facebook page throughout the winner’s journey and will regularly be updated with photos, interviews and videos from each place that they visit.

Havana Club traces its roots back to 1878. Havana Club was launched later as a brand to conquer Cuban domestic market and export markets. The name captures Cuba’s rum making heritage and the unique atmosphere of its capital, Havana, with which the Havana Club brand shares its emblem, the Giraldilla. Thanks to the unique know-how of its Maestros Roneros (Rum Masters Blenders), Havana Club has kept alive the Cuban art of distilling, ageing and blending premium rums, from white to dark aged rums. Havana Club is closely intertwined with the Cuban culture and Cuban people are very proud of what has become a true national icon. They consider it as one of the best ambassadors of Cuba worldwide.
