During the Malta Design Week held recently in Valletta, Absolut Vodka collaborated with two Maltese artists as part of its new global brand initiative, titled “Transform Today”, which aims to connect with the creative spirit in us all and to inspire artistic transformation around the world.
The “Transform Today” project by Absolut Vodka provided a platform within the Malta Design Week on which Maltese artists Ryan Falzon and Sabrina Calleja Jackson could take collaboration to a whole new level: that of merging their two contrasting styles by working simultaneously on a common surface. While Ryan works in an expressive manner, Sabrina’s works are more subtle and sensual.
The result is a celebration of an intelligent composition which was possible by bridging both their working methods together in order to create an organic vibrant rendition. It is a reflection of the process by which Absolut Vodka is produced in relation to a Maltese context, in this case a 'festa'.
Ryan and Sabrina got to know each other at MCAST Art and Design, where they had a number of independent projects within the means of fine art and a number of collaborative works. These collaborations helped Ryan and Sabrina to realise the potentials of working together. After they graduated with a B.A (Hons) in Fine Art, they both took their separate ways to gain more experience. Sabrina continued her studies abroad, obtaining a Masters in Fine Art, Site and Archiving in the UK while Ryan worked on independent projects in Malta and Berlin.
They always had an ambition towards having their own studios and decided to take this idea forward by working within the Xarolla Windmill in Zurrieq, using the space as an open studio and gallery. A year after this project started, they have had a number of successful exhibitions which included upcoming and well-known artists working together.
With its new brand ethos Transform Today, Absolut transforms the way the brand collaborates with artists, and strengthens its efforts to connect global audiences through the common language of art.
